BYO kids...Port Douglas Family Travel

At BYO kids ...your family travel gurus Port Douglas is one of our favourite holiday destinations. Port Douglas is the Gateway to the Reef, a tropical oasis, around 1 hour north of Cairns. It's a perfect destination for families, couples, groups or singles.

There is no doubt that this place is beautiful, swaying palm trees, pristine Four mile beach and a small town feel. The beauty for me though, has to be it's accessability to some of Australia's most gorgeous places. The daintree, with its crocodile infested rivers and magnificent rainforest is a day trip north. The market town of Kuranda, with it's historic scenic railway is another leisurely day trip away. Cairns, with many attractions of it's own, including white water rafting, mountain biking and reef trips is to the south. Last, but not least, the Great Barrier Reef, for snorkelling and diving is just a short boat ride away. Tour buses leave from Port Douglas daily to visit all these attractions

If flying you'll land in Cairns and need a transfer, or hire car to get to Port Douglas. It is a very scenic but windy road. Port Douglas Accomodation ranges from tent, hostel, caravan, hotels, apartments and more. Port Douglas has great bike and walking paths that cover most of the town.

You can drive yourself to many land attractions, which will help keep the costs down. Apartment style accommodation is worth considering for families, as you can prepare meals and it will save you heaps. Several of the resorts offer kids club and the local childcare will take holidaying kids if numbers permit.

Port Douglas does have a safe swimming beach, but you are required to swim in stinger nets at certain times of the year. Be sure to check!! They have a tropical climate, which means hot, humid and often wet summers and glorious winters.

They have a Village Carnivale in May, which is fantastic for kids and adults. Port Douglas is a fun place.
